By pointing to the 1992 Jeffersonian Legacies collection of essays as a  
transitional moment in scholarship about Jefferson, Gordon-Reed modestly  
slights the importance of her Jefferson and Hemings: An American  
Controversy in 1997 .... but there is much here to ponder:
