Edith Moore Sprouse, whose work in preserving the history of Fairfax
County, as a volunteer in the archeology lab and county courthouse, a
writer, and a researcher has benefited so many people, passed away last
Thursday night in her sleep. Her legacy includes histories of Colchester
and Mount Air, published by the county, the microfiche index to Fairfax
County Court Order and Minute Books, the unpublished six volume "Fairfax
County in 1860: a Collective Biography", "Along the Potomac River:
extracts from the Maryland Gazette, 1728-1799', the many volumes of the
Historical Society of Fairfax County Yearbook she edited, and numerous
other manuscripts. She was a long time member of the Fairfax County
History Commission and a wonderful friend to the Alexandria and Fairfax
County Libraries, Gunston Hall, the Lyceum and too many other groups and
organizations to mention.


A memorial reception for Edith Sprouse will be held at the Lyceum, 201
S. Washington St. in Alexandria, on Feb. 5 at 4 pm. In lieu of flowers,
the family suggests donations be sent to Gunston Hall Plantation, with a
note that they are in memory of Edith.

Her family asks that this information be shared with all who knew Edith.
