I think what you are referring to are the Mutual Assurance Society
maps... which are online.

I am not referring to the Sanborn Maps.  Library of Va has a different
series that was used in that part of Va in the 1800s. I don't recall the
name but something like MSS. The reference desk will know what I am
talking about.
