Try zooming in to the area between Potomac and Accokeek Creeks on these two 1863 maps from the Gilmer Collection at VHS - http://www.loc.gov/item/gvhs01.vhs00350/ and
http://www.loc.gov/item/gvhs01.vhs00377/

Also, USGS TopoView shows several unnamed streams between Accokeek and Potomac Creek:
http://ngmdb.usgs.gov/ht-bin/HT_grid.pl?nlat=38.43750000000006&slat=38.43750000000006&wlong=-77.31249999999994&elong=-77.31249999999994
(This very useful site can be accessed directly via http://ngmdb.usgs.gov/maps/TopoView/ It brings together digitized images of all topographic maps produced by the USGS.)

Quite a bit past your date but many unnamed streams. Perhaps the topography/contours will allow you to narrow down a site.

Subject: [VA-HIST] Reedy Branch, Potomac Creek

Hi,

I'm trying to narrow down the location of Reedy Branch of Potomac Creek that is mentioned in a 1709 patent to James Harvey. It is between Potomac and Accokeek Creeks. The USGS doesn't help, nor does VGNIS. There are several candidates just to complicate the issue. In theory the area is west of I-95 due to the absence of larger creeks coming off Potomac Creek. Stafford isn't in the DeedMapper Data Pool unfortunately.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Lyle Browning
