Hi Jurretta Heckscher.
At least 350 mixed-race African American children were born to white women
in Maryland during the colonial period--many in Prince George's and
surrounding counties. Their culture was entirely different from that of
slaves--closer to that of poor whites. Many of these families now claim
Indian descent.
