Dear Phebe,
As a Jefferson Family Historian (www.tjheritage.org and
www.jeffersondna.com, I have much history on the Jefferson/Jeaffreson and
allied families back to Pettistree, Suffolk Co., England. You are correct,
Samuel Jefferson's (TJ's great-great grandfather's) grave is there as well
as the Red House Plantation, a tourist attraction to this date. I have been
in communication with both the church authorities as well as the newly
refurnished Red House Plantation.

This Samuel's father came from Pettistree with Sir Thomas Warner, a
neighbor, to found the West Indies. Mr. Jeaffreson was second in command.
Thomas Jefferson I,(TJ's great grandfather),one of three brothers to come to
Va. from St. Kitts settled in Henrico Co., Va. on the James River, south of
Richmond, and brothers Richard and Samuel moved on to Southern Maryland in
their ship, Two Brothers.

If you will contact me at [log in to unmask] I will be happy to discuss this
family. Type in Pettistree, England on your search engine for a beautiful
web page of that area.

On our recent cruise we visited the island of St. Kitts.

While on a tour of the island our guide pointed out the church and resting
place of Thomas Jefferson's great great grandfather. We also visited the
"plantation" that he once owned.

Would someone please point me to a publication or website that I may find
out additional information on Thomas Jefferson's ancestors.

Did the family come directly from St. Kitts to Virginia?
