Registration for the twelfth Family History Institute of Southwest
Virginia is now under way for the April 8th meeting at the Wytheville
Holiday Inn. Participants from as far away as Bangkok, California and
Alabama have already completed their applications. The deadline for
reduced prices is March 25th. There is limited seating and an early
reservation is suggested.
The purpose of the one-day seminar, sponsored by The Wythe County
Genealogical and Historical Association, is to provide information to
genealogists, historians, authors and researchers. There will be
something for the beginner as well as those already doing research on
their families. In addition, a wide variety of books will be available
from booksellers such as Mountain Press, Continuity Press, Kegley Books,
The Wythe County Genealogical and Historical Association, and the
evening speaker, Mr. Tom Perry.
Mr. Perry, a noted lecturer, author, television personality and founder
of the J.E.B. Stuart Birthplace Preservation Trust, Inc., will present
his slide program called "J.E.B. Stuart's Last Ride: The Battle of
Yellow Tavern," after the dinner.
During the day presentations will be made by Mary B. Kegley, author,
attorney and historian, about her recent research on the Irish in Wythe
County. Jeraldyne A. Moore, an expert on Internet genealogy, will have
that as her subject. Mr. Jim Douthat, author, publisher and lecturer,
will present a program on North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee
records in what he calls the "Black Hole of Genealogy." Beverly Repass
Hoch, a Certified Genealogist, author and lecturer, will present a
program on the Civil War Pensions of Virginians.
One of the favorites of other Institutes, "What You Always Wanted to
Know About Genealogy," will be presented by researcher Liz Groseclose
and Mary B. Kegley.
To obtain a registration form and information about fees, please send a
stamped self-addressed envelope to The Wythe County Genealogical and
Historical Association, PO Box 1601, Wytheville, VA 224382 or request
on-line information from Kathy Miller at [log in to unmask] .
Participants may register for the day sessions or the evening banquet or
both.
