The Episcopal Church in America was founded in 1789, so I think that is an inaccurate statement. The church in Jamestown was the Protestant Church of England. The local parishes that were Church of England before the Revolution became Episcopalian in 1789. With the Revolution disrupting their unity, the English Church and the American Church became two different *organizations*, believing the same thing. The Episopalian [American] church is still, to this day, under the theological authority of the Church of England, and the Archbisop of Canterbury, so there is a close relationship now. In England and in the States, many Episcopalians also call themselves "Anglican Catholic", or Anglicans.
Clear as mud? Bottom line is that the Epicopal Church in America didn't exist when Jamestown was founded.
