Well, in addition to all of the wonderful information about the family
relationships, there are depositions from witnesses in many of these cases.

Sometimes the depositions are very routine, pro forma. But often they
contain wonderful glimpses of everyday life. Someone witnessed something at
a corn husking, or while cutting wood for charcoal, or a dispute over a
barrel of brandy which also involved the defendant taking a mare out of the
woods. Stuff like that, little flashes of real life buried in the dusty
facts.

I *love* reading the depositions, wish there were enough hours in the day to
read them all!
