This appeared on the Fairfield, Connecticut list and is being forwarded to
the Virginia History list. Perhaps someone can provide clues?

Subject: [CTFAIRFI] Jared Mead/e

Hello,

I received the following and was given permission to share it with you:

In a message dated 2/23/01 3:21:54 PM, Page02 writes:

<< I am the president of the Fairfax County Historical Society. We are
attempting to save the home of a Jared Meade, a mid-19th c. home on 20 plus
acres which the developer would like to demolish.

I am looking for any information on either Jared Mead or Hiram Fuller both
of
Fairfield Co., CT. They moved to Fairfax Co., VA. in 1844. I have no
information about him after that date. Mead's wife's name was Hannah,
Fuller's wife was Lydia. The two men were partners. Hiram Fuller, was the
Editor of the local newspaper (the "Fairfax News") and the first in the
county. Shortly after they arrived in Fairfac they purchased land and
operated a grist mill and saw mill together.

The Fairfax County deed records state "Jared Mead and Hiram Fuller, of
Fairfield County, Connecticut." In 1851 Fuller died. His obituary in the
Alexandria (VA) Gazette states he was born in South Salem (Westchester Co.),
New York. Not too far from Fairfield, CT. The point is Mead may have also
been from New York.

One more thing, I have discovered a Hiram Fuller who was the owner and
editor
of the New York Evening News at about the same time frame (1840's & 1850's).
Could this be the same man?

If you have any information on either man I would be most appreciative.

Regards,

Page Johnson

I did find Jared in the Mead H & G as son of Libbeus, son of Eliphalet, son
of my 8th great-uncle Benjamin Mead, son of John Mead, Sr., of Greenwich

I referred Mr. Johnson to the Greenwich Historical Society in Cos Cob, as it
has a large collection of Mead family history. I hope that if you descend
from the JARED line, you will contact Mr. Johnson and find out about the
drive to save his house in Fairfax, VA.

Best regards, Maureen Mead
