As you head out to the polls next week, reflect on a time when your
right to vote could depend upon your race, gender, or economic status.
The Warren County register of "Refused Colored Applicants," 1902-1903,
illustrates the struggles that some Virginians experienced while
attempting to exercise their right to vote guaranteed them by the 15th
Amendment.
