I am researching information about the ropewalk that existed in  
Norfolk from about 1765 to 1776, that was established by John Hunter,  
Robert Tucker, William Aitchison, Archibald Campbell, and James  
Parker, and that was confiscated by the Commonwealth of Virginia in  
early 1776, when it was removed to Warwick, Virginia, to briefly serve  
as the state's ropewalk.  The ropewalk apparently existed within the  
bounds of the Borough of Norfolk, but I'm trying to find out exactly  
where.  The problem is that I don't know how to find a deed for the  
sale of the land by the State/Commonwealth after it was confiscated  
(and I don't know who later purchased it).  At that early date, I know  
of no borough records that have any deeds of the State/Commonwealth;  
and there is no deed index listing for the State/Commonwealth.  Does  
anyone know where I would find deeds of land sold by the State, ca.  
1770s, 1780s?  And any other suggestions as to how to determine the  
ropewalk's precise location will be welcome.  Thanks.
