If you are going to be near Charleston SC this summer, by all means go by to see the CSS Hunley. It is in a special tank at the Warren Lasch Conservation Center on the old Chas Naval Base, hard to find, but well worth the effort. The center is open Saturday and Sunday afternoons (1-5 I think). You do not need a ticket to get in to see the two movies, the replica used in the third movie (TNN with Donald Sutherland, et al), or to shop for books, tapes and T-shirts. You can buy $10 tickets there to actually see it in the tank - short 15 minute visit- no photography allowed there. But you can take photos in the FREE part. And you can sit in the replica and Crank!!! If you want directions and/or to see photos of me cranking, send an E-Mail directly to [log in to unmask]
