In response to Jon Kukla's query about John Taylor to Wilson Cary Nicholas, 25 October 1818 (MHi: Coolidge Collection of Jefferson Manuscripts). I am not aware of a previously published version.

This particular letter found its way into a collection of Jefferson family documents because the recipient, Wilson Cary Nicholas, was the father-in-law of Thomas Jefferson Randolph, Thomas Jefferson's grandson. Randolph wound up serving as executor of both Jefferson's and Nicholas's estates, and their papers became mingled.

The letter was already on our list of items for inclusion in our Digital Archive here at the Papers of Thomas Jefferson: Retirement Series, and so we decided to bump it up in the queue. A verified transcription went online today. You can get to it at

http://www.monticello.org/site/research-and-collections/about-retirement-series-digital-archive

by clicking on "Search the Digital Archive" and then entering the date of the document.

The Digital Archive now contains more than 700 family documents and 500 quotes by and about Thomas Jefferson, all freely available to the user. We hope that you and other VA-HIST users will find this growing body of documents helpful.
