J South,

According to responses I get from the site, private school and homeschoolers
are as likely to be "exposed" to this "trash" as public school children.
Bear in mind that in other parts of the country, people who fought for their
freedom and that of their brothers are considered heroes, not villains.

The more I read of Nat Turner the less I feel that his "massacre" was
racially motivated so much as motivated by the feeling that he was acting on
behalf of all slaves and that he was a part of a much larger action,
directed by God, to eliminate the illogical notion of owning humans.

As I read, I was impressed by Nat Turner's spirituality and dedication to
God. While he clearly had a mission to carry out "God's Plan" to eliminate
slavery in our most favored nation, God forgot to give him a plan to carry
it out. Had he preached of freedom and advocated an en-masse "runaway", he
may have carried out the mission more morally and defensibly.

In any event, his life was, in general, one of religiosity and spirituality
prior to the misguided notion of massacre. This, in itself, separates him
from some of those, like Jeffrey Dahlmer, with whom he is lumped.

Remember - Nat Turner did not single-handedly commit the mass murders. He
was the leader of a rebellion that effected the murders. How many murders he
personally committed is not known.
