On the other hand, West India traders were an opportunistic lot. In the
late 17th and early 18th century there was a good deal of trade in Native
American slaves into the sugar islands to be traded for Africans for the
return voyage. This raises the question as to whether or not there exists a
collection of ship's manifests for the period and the trade. Does anyone
know if such exists and where one might find such manifests?

There was a lot of trade that didn't involve slaves. Many ships
sailed the triangle, down to the Caribbean to unload a cargo from
England and take on rum, take the rum up to the colonies, where it
was the favored drink, sell it and take on a load of whatever the
colony was selling, usually hogsheads of tobacco. Then back across
the Atlantic, hopefully before the winter storms set in. My own
ancestor came on such a ship, he was an indentured servant.
