Here is a tidbit of info may account for a bit of info.

According to history on Governor John West of Virginia his son Lt. Col. John
West, Jr. was the first white child born at Chicayach on the York River,
because of this fact, Captain John West received a grant of two thousand
acres of land. Later he received 1,550 acres in York County and two large
grants in Gloucester County. One of these was regranted to his son.
He was born 1632
Maybe there just wasn't any born before this time in Virginia or maybe it was
only this area.
