The US government did take steps towards indicting Jefferson Davis for
treason following the war (in 1867).  I believe a grand jury was
empanelled in Richmond, but in the end nothing came of it.  Davis was
bailed out, and eventually moved to Canada, (rejecting amnesty and a
restoration of citizenship), but later returned to Mississippi.  Does
anyone know more of the details?
