"Straight to the Source"
25th Anniversary Program, March 24, 2017

On Friday, March 24, 2017, the Friends of the Virginia State Archives will sponsor the 25th annual "Straight to the Source" program at the Library of Virginia.  Participants will have the opportunity to hear what the Library staff has learned in the process of working with archival records in the collection.

Subjects this year are particularly timely and informative.  Senior State Records Archivist Roger Christman will describe the vast and significant material found among the records of the Virginia War History Commission as we approach the 100th anniversary of World War I.  Reference archivist Cara Griggs offers a timely historical review of immigration and naturalization records for the period 1657 to 1929 and explains how to locate them in the collection.  Local Records archivist Callie Freed will discuss land warrants found in chancery court records.  Lastly, Local Records program manager Greg Crawford outlines the circumstances surrounding the surprising return of a 17th century Charles City County record book taken from the courthouse in 1862.

Don't miss the opportunity to attend the 25th anniversary program.  Registration begins at 8:30 am and the program concludes at 3:00 pm.  The cost is $35 for members of the Friends and $50 for nonmembers and includes a delicious lunch.
