Library Specialist III

The Library of Virginia is seeking a Systems Librarian in the
Information Technology Division to administer, support and enhance the
applications software operations of the agency's integrated library
system (ILS) and to provide associated technical advice, problem
solving, and support for the agency. Reporting to the Director of
Information Technology, this position's responsibilities include
communicating with Library staff to define requirements and system
configurations; working with system administrator regarding installation
of upgrades and patches and vendor communications; troubleshooting
problems and responding to user questions; working with webmaster on
Unix scripting to resolve ILS software issues; serving as primary vendor
contact; testing new and enhanced software; evaluating, planning, and
managing development projects; training staff; and assisting with
long-range planning of automated systems. In addition, the position will
provide input to staff responsible for electronic records and digital
image cataloging; participate in the electronic records information and
website committees; and participate in the agency's strategic planning
process. 

Qualifications

Masters in Library Science from an American Library
Association-accredited graduate program. 
Extensive experience in a technology intensive environment in a library
setting. 
Extensive experience utilizing online resources and in the development,
creation, and use of online bibliographic and other database resources. 
Extensive experience with Library of Congress classifications, MARC
formats and authority records. 
Extensive experience administering or using a multi-module ILS
(preferably ExLibris Aleph). 
Cataloging experience with electronic resources. 
Experience with computer software applications for MARC bibliographic
records creation and maintenance. 
Experience with Windows XP, Office and Sun Unix operations systems. 
Project management experience. 
Experience with collections associated with the history, literature, and
culture of Virginia desirable. 
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and
ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. 
Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to explain
technical material to diverse, non-technical users at many
organizational levels. 
Proactive strategic outlook and ability to manage change. 
Equivalent combination of education, training and experience may
substitute. 
Must pass a security background check.
