[Apologies for the late notice. These events are open to the public. SF]

Saturday, September 27
10 a.m., Albemarle County Court House
Historic Court Square, Charlottesville

The Albemarle Charlottesville Historical Society Quarterly Meeting will
feature guest speaker Dr. John Maass, an historian with the US Army Center
of Military History at Ft. McNair, D.C. Dr. Maass will be speaking on
Tarleton's Raid and the British campaign through Charlottesville in
1781.

As a special supplement to this lecture, ACHS is offering a bus
tour of several sites associated with Tarleton's Raid, including
Boswell's Tavern (Louisa Co.); Castle Hill (Albemarle Co); The Farm
(Charlottesville); and the city's Court Square. All sites were visited
by Tarleton and his men as they rode west to capture the state's assembly.

The lecture is free to members and the public. Bus tour tickets cost
$30 for members and $40 for non-members. An optional boxed lunch is
available for pre-order ($10). The bus tour will last from approximately
11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Please visit the ACHS website at

www.albemarlehistory.org

for a registration form, or contact the Society at 434-296-1492.

The tour will be held rain or shine.
