The Thomas Balch Library Commission in Leesburg (the county seat of Loudoun County) gave the 2011 Loudoun History Award to Taylor Chamberlin and John Souders. You can read about them in "The Thomas Balch Chronicle" published online by the Friends of Thomas Balch Library.

The county takes its name from Lord Loudoun. Somehow when settlers crossed the big mountains into Tennessee and created a county there they found it too cumbersome to include the second "u."

Jim Hershman
Vice-Chairman, Thomas Balch Library Advisory Commission
