Jim Watkinson referenced the School Buildings exhibition at the Library of
Virginia during the summer of 1998. Curated by Sarah Dreller, then a
graduate student in architectural history at the University of Virginia,
the exhibition used architectural plans and drawings and Department of
Education photographs of Virginia's school buildings to trace the
development of an institutional style.

Also, in recent years, there has been growing interest in the history and
preservation of Rosenwald Schools. See
http://www.rosenwaldschools.com/resources.html for the National Trust for
Historic Preservation's initiative. The Virginia Foundation for the
Humanities has funded study of the Scrabble School in Rappahannock and a
program at the Northumberland County Rosenwald High School.
