I , too, am interested in southern cities, particularly DC in the late 1820's-early 1830's. Thank you.

Subject: [VA-HIST] Summer in the city

What was Richmond like in the summer during the early Federal period?
One hears that the oppressive heat encouraged those who could to
disperse to the springs, and there is plenty of material on those
gathering spots.
Does anyone have any good sources on the foods, social customs, annual
events, etc. that happened in the summer months in the capital city?
The years 1790 - 1820 are of particular interest.
Thanks in advance for your helpful advice.
Alyson L. Taylor-White
