Hey everyone,

I'm trying to find any photo that shows the southeast corner of 15th & Cary
streets in Richmond before the 1865 fire, or shortly after, if any of the
antebellum buildings survived. It's the location where Buffalo Wild Wings is
now, in the complex called "Canal Crossing," lot #325 on this 1889 map:
http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/A8I1Ww9Tkz8jK0oZ26ZAUw

As shown on that map, the lot was close to the gas works before they were
moved out of town, so a period photo of the original gasworks might show the
area in the background. But all I can find are photos of the gasworks after
it moved further south.

This picture is close:

but I think 15th & Cary would be out of the picture to the right, closer to
the viewer. Is that correct?

The Library of Virginia has a 20th century photo of the 1830 Wortham &
McGruder building on 15th at Cary that was on the *northeast* corner, so
it's possible the SE buildings may have survived the fire also. As far as I
can tell, the buildings currently on the SE corner were from 1916 and 1948,
but there might be photos of the older buildings after the fire but before
the 20th century buildings were constructed.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'll be in Richmond in a few weeks and
can look at photos in archives in person, but I've tried to search all the
online finding aids, and haven't had any success. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Hank Trent
