I read one particular alternate history when I was in high school, and
unfortunately the only thing that really stands out to me now is the cover:
a reworking of the famous picture of the astronaut raising the flag on the
moon, except instead of the U.S. flag, it was a battle flag of the
Confederacy.  In checking library catalogs just now, I *believe* it might
have been MacKinlay Kantor's _If the South Had Won the Civil War_.  If I
recall correctly (it *was* 15 years ago), the book also had some statistical
information that might have supported the author's thesis--maybe checking it
out at a local library will yield some bibliographic information that'd
help.
