Learn about popular historic photographic methods – including daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, glass plate negatives, and film negatives, and how improper handling can cause or further deterioration. MANASSAS GAP RAILROAD

INDEPENDENT LINE

An Informal Survey by Clark Spitler

From 1851 to 1857, the Manassas Gap Railroad attempted to build an independent line running from Gainesville to Alexandria. Although the line was never completed, the cuts and fills made in preparation for it provided important protective embankments during the Second Battle of Manassas, 1862. Considerable action took place there. Clark Spitler has explored the complete route of the line and photographed surviving segments of it, resulting in an illustrated book. He will take you on an armchair tour of the rail line on Tuesday, April 22, at 7 p.m., at Bull Run Regional Library.

Using Technology to Organize

and Share Your Research

RELIC’s Don Wilson will demonstrate some of the options available today, including software programs, websites, and special equipment. Audience feedback and input to the program are encouraged.

This program will be presented on Thursday, May 15 at 11 a.m. and repeated on Tuesday, May 20, at 7 p.m., at Bull Run Regional Library. To reserve a seat for this free program, contact RELIC at (703) 792-4540 or at [log in to unmask]
