PUBLIC LIBRARY CONSULTANT
Library Specialist III - Position #113
Salary commensurate with experience

The Library of Virginia is seeking a dynamic Public Library Consultant
to support the development of public libraries in Virginia by providing
directors, trustees, Friends of the Library and local government
officials with information on best practices for all aspects of library
management.  The consultant provides orientation for new library
directors, develops and presents workshops for trustees, and serves as
the library director's reference librarian.  The consultant will assist
with public library data collection and analysis.

Qualifications
s	Graduation from an ALA accredited university with a Master's
degree in Library Science.
s	Virginia Professional Librarian Certificate or ability to
obtain.
s	Progressively responsible professional library experience,
public library preferred.
s	Considerable knowledge of library management, both practical and
theoretical.  
s	Knowledge of trends in library services; of techniques in
planning, implementing, and evaluation of library services and programs.

s	Knowledge of the principles, practices, and policies of public
management.  
s	Ability to conduct research and to plan and conduct programs. 
s	Public speaking skills for groups of all sizes. 
s	Ability to analyze operational and program needs and develop
solutions.  
s	Ability to work both independently and in teams internally and
externally.  
s	Ability to develop strong working relationships with public
library directors, trustees and others. 
s	Skill in the use of computers and standard applications in the
modern office environment including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.

s	Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
s	Must be highly flexible and able to handle multiple projects
simultaneously.
s	Valid Virginia driver's license or ability to obtain.
s	Available to travel frequently; occasionally overnight.
s	Must pass a background check. 

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may
substitute for educational requirements.

TECHNOLOGY CONSULTANT
Library Specialist III - Position #119
Salary commensurate with experience

The Library of Virginia is seeking a dynamic Technology Consultant to
provide assistance to public libraries in the area of technology via
direct consultation, continuing education, and research.  The Library
Development and Networking Division provides direction, assistance,
counsel to and oversight for public and other libraries. 

The Technology Consultant will assist and consult with Virginia's public
libraries in all phases of technology.  In the development of the
Infopowering the Commonwealth program, the consultant will manage the
Findit Virginia (www.finditva.com) statewide database project.  Related
duties include working with the library community to determine
needs/priorities and the coordination of the procurement process
including RFP development, proposal evaluation, testing, vendor
presentations, and user training.  The consultant works closely with
other consulting staff to design and implement appropriate continuing
education activities to develop competency among public library staff in
effectively using library technology.  The consultant assists public
libraries with the federal E-Rate program.  

Qualifications
*	Graduation from ALA accredited university with Master's Degree

library services and programs.
*	Some knowledge of procuring and managing electronic databases
and developing Requests for Proposals. 
*	Ability to conduct surveys, to plan and conduct continuing
education activities.
*	Ability to travel frequently, occasionally overnight.
*	Ability to work both independently and in teams, internally and
externally.
*	Ability to use computers for database management, web-site
management, word-processing, spreadsheets, and other common applications
in the modern office environment.
*	Must be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
*	Valid Virginia driver's license required or ability to obtain.
*	Must pass background check.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may
substitute for educational requirements.
