This is (1) a follow up to my request a couple of weeks ago for musical ideas to welcome back the troops, and (2) a request for long-lost info.

(1) Thank you all who responded. I have put together a band book for the re-created WINCHESTER BRASS BAND of 12 selections covering a century and half of American music. The band actually existed, starting in 1866, and probably lasted for 20-some years until it was replaced by bands in the three fire departments of Winchester, and eventually (like most such bands) lost out to the public school band movement, and other interests of the US people. The band book starts with LILY BELL QUICKSTEP from the Brass Band Journal 1853, through STONEWALL JACKSON'S WAY, Sousa's THE RIFLE REGIMENT, HOT TIME IN THE OLD TOWN TONIGHT for the Spanish American War, OVER THERE for WWI, and finally MARCH BAND OF THE SHENANDOAH ca. 1993. Col. Brodie from VMI has graciously agreed to direct this brass band, and to lend us his stable of reproduction over-the-shoulder saxhorns. Since we still do not know WHEN the troops will return, we don't know when we can practice, etc. But I did provide a practice CD of the stirring music for the performers.

(2) Request for info. Somewhere in the past, I saw a photo of Will Ruebush leading the 116th (I think) Infantry band down the main street of somewhere. I think it was Harrisonburg, but may have been Richmond. And I think it was returning from WWI. And I think it was an article in the Virginia Cavalcade. A free CD to anybody who can provide me that photo!!!
