Note that both Smith and Byrd report seeing sparkly sand and hoping there was
gold there, only to find it was only isinglass (mica).  Both explained that it
was was reasonable to expect there would be certain mineral deposits because
such deposits were found elsewhere in the same latitude.  Might not the copper
be just as suppositious?
