I think the Locke's Essay (xvi) is not political -- it's probably
educational: his Essay Concerning Human Understanding (1690) was one of
the most important works on the general subject and includes Locke's
ideas about such things as mental development and the processes of
learning (the tabula rasa model).
I don't know if Burrough's Memoir (ii) is Stephen Burrough's memoir or
not; it would seem a strange volume among these others withtheir
emphases on science, history, and theology.

Some of the gems to be found in going through the estate records for
Lancaster County from 1835-1865 are such as this of books from the
estate of Elizabeth Selden in 1848. She was twice married, first to
William O. Nutt in 1796 and second to Richard Selden in 1803. The
books probably came through the estate of her second husband.
I am wondering if any you book affiiandos can recognize some of these
titles, and what they would be worth today.

By comparison with other items in the inventory, these books were
considered of equal value to such things as an ink stand pend, 5
geese, a silver ladle, 4 mugs and tea pot, a bread basket and two
conch shells.
