Dust off your Code Duello, and your familiarity with treasonable offenses, and brace for a return of the most famous trial of that century to once again hit Richmond, Virginia. The Aaron Burr Association (aaronburrassociation.org) will meet in Richmond October 5 and 6 and the public is invited to attend for the price of admission. On Friday night, October 5 the members of the association will return to the "scene of the crime" - the Old House Chamber in the Virginia State Capitol - to witness a dramatization of the 1807 trial that pitted the most brilliant legal minds of their day against each other and in some measure against the White House and its chief occupant, Thomas Jefferson. On October 6 they will convene at Sam Miller's Warehouse Restaurant for lunch ($40 if you'd like to join them) and a lecture by historian Charles Hobson. Many will know Prof. Hobson from his work as the editor of the papers of John Marshall. Judge Marshall, who was also Chief Justice of the United States at the time, was the judge in the Burr case. The contact person for this conference is the Burr Association President Stuart Johnson who can be reached at (301) 641-0494. Even if you don't fancy spending time at a conference, you can still enjoy and explore historic sites authentic to the era of Aaron Burr like the newly restored and retrofitted Capitol, the John Marshall House, St. John's Church, and others.
