Often it takes tenacity and curiosity to recognize records that have special
historical value. An eagle-eyed archivist processing hundreds of dusty
volumes removed from the Augusta County courthouse basement identified a
seemingly mundane ledger that provides insight into industrial slavery in
antebellum Virginia. See her discovery in this week’s Out of the Box blog from
the archives at the Library of Virginia.
