Salary Minimum: $33,613

The Archival and Records Management Services Division of the Library of
Virginia is seeking an Archivist for its Local Records Services Branch.
This position will be responsible for analyzing, describing, cataloging,
and preserving archival and manuscript collections of the circuit courts
in order to promote universal patron access to the documentary heritage
of the Commonwealth and its citizens.  Daily responsibilities include
ensuring the proper identification, arrangement, description, and
conservation of complex records comprising the records of Virginia's
Circuit Courts, and compiles EAD guides and MARC records. The position
will also be responsible for assisting Circuit Court Clerks as directed.


Qualifications:
*	Masters degree in U.S. History, Library Science, or related
field.
*	Formal training in archives administration preferred.  
*	Experience as an archivist at an entry level preferred.
*	Considerable knowledge of archival standards, theory, and
practice.
*	Considerable knowledge of Virginia state and local history and
legal processes.
*	Working knowledge of archival automation [EAD]. 
*	Working knowledge of online cataloging using MARC format.
*	Working knowledge of standard archival conservation guidelines.
*	Demonstrated ability to analyze, arrange, and describe
collections accurately.
*	Demonstrated ability to examine chancery papers, analyze
information and index pertinent data.
*	Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in
writing.
*	Demonstrated ability to work as an effective member of a team.
*	Must pass a background check.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may
substitute for educational requirements.
