Dr. Ed Ayres at the Yorktown Victory Center, who is having temporary
trouble with his Va-Hist subscription, asked me to forward this request
to the list.

The Yorktown Victory Center of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation
is planning a new permanent exhibit entitled "A Nation of Immigrants"
that will open in the late Summer of 2006. This exhibit will focus on
immigration to Virginia primarily during the period from 1700 to about
1860, with a special emphasis on the post-Revolutionary and early
National period. The exhibit team would like to identify four or five
contemporary, "quotable" statements from ca 1700-1830 that describe
Virginia immigrants or groups, their experiences, and/or what drew them
to Virginia or drove them to leave their homeland. Any suggestions,
examples, etc. will be greatly appreciated.
