Madison Smartt Bell's _All Souls' Rising_ is an excellent novel of the
Haitian Revolution based largely on unpublished first-hand accounts in
Chicago's Newberry Library.  Among other things, it sheds light upon the
Virginia Republicans' terror at the thought of "St. Domingo."
