RELIC RETURNS TO BULL RUN LIBRARY JUNE 11

The RELIC staff are pleased to report that the heating and air
conditioning work at Bull Run Regional Library has been completed (along
with a new roof) and the building and RELIC are ready to reopen next
Monday, June 11.

All of RELIC's historical and genealogical collections are once again
accessible.  Staff will be available to help customers all hours the
branch is open:  Mondays-Thursdays 10 a.m.-9 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays
10 a.m.-5 p.m.   Sunday hours will resume in mid-September.

RELIC PROGRAMS

Here are our latest offerings.  Funding for RELIC programs is provided
by the Friends of Central and Bull Run Libraries.  Sign language
interpretation is available for Prince William Public Library programs
if requested at least three weeks in advance.    To be notified of

GENEALOGY 101:  BEGINNING YOUR FAMILY HISTORY

Presented by the Staff of RELIC

Family history can be found in many places, including home, libraries,
court houses, archives, cemeteries, and the internet.  The staff of the
Ruth E. Lloyd Information Center (RELIC) will present an introduction to
family history research, "Genealogy 101," on Thursday, June 14, at 2
p.m. at Bull Run Regional Library.   This session will last about one
hour, including time for questions and answers.   You may register for

DEMONSTRATION OF FAMILY TREE MAKER SOFTWARE

Presented by Kathryn Peters

Whether you're just beginning your family history research, or you're
already using the Family Tree Maker program and want to know more about
its advanced features, this free program will prove beneficial.  Join
long-time genealogist and Family Tree Maker (FTM) Genealogy Software
user, Kathryn Peters, at Bull Run Regional Library on Tuesday, September
26, at 7:30 p.m., as she displays many features of this versatile
genealogy tool.   Ms. Peters will demonstrate how to create reports and
charts, note sources, manipulate information, calculate relationships of
individuals in your family tree, attach photos and images, import and
export information, exchange data with other researchers and attach
source documentation for your family information.

VINEYARDS OF PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY:  

THEN AND NOW

Presented by Ray Olszewski

Wine history enthusiast Ray Olszewski will present an overview of local
wine-making history on Thursday, June 28, at 7:30 p.m., at Bull Run
Regional Library.  He has discovered there have been a surprising number
of local families and farms involved with viticulture and enology over
the years.   

Mr. Olszewski has written two articles on wine history for Prince
William Reliquary, RELIC's online history magazine.   He will share his
knowledge of Prince William vineyards from the Civil War period through
the twentieth century.

STUMP THE "GENEALOGY DOCTOR"

Presented by Don Wilson

            RELIC's Don Wilson will host an open forum to answer as many
genealogy-related questions as possible within an hour.  The session
will take place at Bull Run Regional Library's community room, Thursday,
July 12, beginning at 11 a.m. 

Bring your family history questions, simple or complicated, and see how
long it takes for the "Genealogy Doctor" to admit to being baffled.
Each question should fit on a 3x5 card and be submitted at the beginning
of the program.   The submitter should be willing to provide additional
details if requested.  Mr. Wilson's response will be to describe a plan
of attack and useful resources.

THE CLUES ARE IN THE CENSUS:

FINDING FORMER SLAVES AND SLAVE OWNERS

Presented by Char McCargo Bah

            Professional historian, genealogist and author Char McCargo
Bah will bring her knowledge of African-American genealogy to Bull Run
Regional Library for a program on Tuesday, June 24, at 7:30 p.m.  She
will present a talk she also gave at the recent National Genealogical
Society conference in Richmond:  "The Clues Are in the Census:  Finding
Former Slaves and Slave Owners.

            Her research addresses the problem that those with African
ancestry often encounter:  How to find documentation about an ancestor
in the years before slavery was abolished?  She will describe techniques
for finding links between ancestors and the persons who controlled their
lives.
