My question is not focussed exclusively on Virginia, but is one I have
pondered for a while since I have found many more of my ancestors participating in
the War of 1812 (particularly in Tennessee), then their father's did in the
Rev. War (NC and VA).

I have been to the National Archives and gone through numerous War of 1812
pension files, looking (so far unsuccessfully) for clues as to the geographical
background of some of my deadends in Tennessee.

My interest is in the south, principally Maryland, Virginia, Tennessee and
North Carolina.

I am curious about statistics for the size of the fighting military
participants (whether militia, official army, etc.) comparing the Revolutionary War and
the War of 1812. It seems as though I have almost as many men in my allied
families named Commodore Perry XXXXsurname born 1815 and after, as I do George
Washington xxxxsurname. FYI, most of my TN War of 1812 folks were on the
trail to New Orleans.

Thanks in advance. I realize asking this question on a Friday night means
many of the experts won't respond until Monday.

Best Regards,
Janet (Baugh) Hunter
