Randy,

The article is "A Soldier of Song in Word War I: William Howe Ruebush,
Virginia National Guard" by Dale F. Harter and appears in vol. 50, no. 3
(Summer 2001). The image on page 110 shows Ruebush leading the 116th
Infantry Band down a street in Newport News after returning to the U.S.
in 1919. There is also a picutre of the band and regiment in France on
page 104.

For those interested, you can search the table of contents of Virginia
Cavalcade here:

Subject: Virginia Cavalcade and Will Ruebush

In one of the last issues of the Virginia Cavalcade, there was an
article about Will Ruebush on Dayton, and if I recall, there was a photo
of him leading a National Guard Band down the streets of Harrisonburg
ca. 1916-1918. If anybody recalls this, can you tell me what band it
was? I think I recall it was the 116th Infantry and that he took it to
France when the regiment went over, but it is all very foggy in my
brain.
