and of course whether they were his kids or his relatives kids, he was
holding  in slavery his own relatives -- his children or his nieces and
nephews.  The defenders of Jefferson on Sally all want to blame his
relatives, but none seem to care to consider the morality or holding
your relatives children in slavery.  Moreover, as Anne's posting below
suggests, people seem more concerned about Jefferson having sex (like
who really cares?) that about holding the results of that sex in
slavery.

I'm not sure which is more disrespectful - to accuse old Tom of having 
unmarried sex (which was NOT adultery since neither was legally married 
elsewhere) with a maid who reminded him of his wife, or inviting all
sorts 
of visiting relatives to go out back and have at it making a baby!
