It was surprising to me to talk to some young people who did not know why we celebrated the 4th of July. We ( Americans) are sadly lacking in our knowledge of history.

My only knowledge of the Shenandoah is the military histories that are or were studied in Australian Army officer training courses many years ago. Can anyone enlighten a furriner? On the other hand, I recall flying over it one time, talking to a colleague about Jackson and his campaign, and then having the curious experience of an American leaning over from the seat behind to ask me what I was talking about.
