Lynchburg, Virginia Launches Civil War Tour  

 

The Historic Sandusky Foundation has launched a new Civil War driving tour of Lynchburg, Virginia.  The tour leads visitors on a seven mile journey of sites connected to the June 1864 Battle of Lynchburg.  Also featured is the addition of seven new Virginia Civil War Trails Markers

 

The audio tour is narrated by James I. Robertson, Jr., Alumni Distinguished Professor of History at Virginia Tech and Executive Director of the Virginia Center of Civil War history.  Robertson well known from his from his popular weekly program heard on public radio.  

 


The project is a partnership between the Lynchburg Regional Chamber of Commerce, Lynchburg Regional Convention and Visitor's Bureau, the City of Lynchburg, the Virginia Civil War Trails marker program, the Virginia Tourism Corporation, The Richard and Caroline T. Gwathmey Memorial Trust and the Beirne Carter Foundation, Morris Construction Co., The Spring Hill Cemetery Association, and Historic Sandusky Foundation.

 

The tour recording is available in cassette or CD format and can be used during a driving tour of Lynchburg, or enjoyed from the comfort of your home.  A fold out map of the battlefield is included in the package.  Civil War music and sound effects add to the drama of the narration.  



CD's can be mail ordered for $12.00 Ppd, cassettes $10.00 Ppd.
