Calendars in _Virginia Almanacks_ show "Powder Plot" (aka Guy Fawkes Day) on
Nov. 5. From Norfolk in 1770, Margaret Parker wrote to her husband James
Parker that "this the 5th of November and [our son] has been employed all
day making bonfires." Unfortunately, the _Virginia Gazette_ yields only one
reference (according to the published index) to Guy Fawkes Day. I have not
looked up the item, but the index claims it reviews the history of the day.
