It's a shame that there isn't a scholarly edition of all of St. George Tucker's works, including his poems, letters, essays, pamphlets, editorial essays, and opinions.

Subject: [VA-HIST] Collected Essays of St. George Tucker, ed. Carl Dolmetsch

Members of the list might be interested to know that my colleague (professor emeritus) Carl Dolmetsch's scholarly edition of the Collected Essays of St. George Tucker is now available on line:

                https://digitalarchive.wm.edu/handle/10288/18950

There had been a slight delay in publication, Carl's having finished work on the edition in 1986.

The essays were written for publication, but never appeared. Given my own work on W&M and slavery, no. 26, "On Benevolence and Slavery," struck me as especially interesting.

Have we got a college? Have we got a football team?....Well, we can't afford both. Tomorrow we start tearing down the college.
