J South,

First of all, were the Choctaw Indians considered, or considered themselves,
a free nation? If so, they were not bound by the agreements that ended the
Uncivil War.

Secondly, what percentage of the Indians and Free Blacks were slave owners
compared to the percentage who were white? How did the life of the enslaved
persons differ if they were under the ownership of an Indian tribe and/or a
Free Black as compared to a white plantation owner (and I am specifying
plantation owner since I am aware that many who owned just one or two slaves
did not treat their slaves as callously as did those who owned large
plantation especially those further south than Virginia).

And, do try to remember that the north was not the aggresser in the Uncivil
War. The south fired the first shot, and they did so because the north
refused to conform to their unmeritorious demands. I am inclined to view the
south as the aggressor, rather than the north. Remember, the south, because
of the 3/5ths clause, had greater representation in congress for
generations, until the north caught up and could begin to assert itself in a
"free land".
