Joan --

You have probably already thought of all this, so apologies if I am telling
you how to blow eggs, but I would start with "historic dolls". But, even
more to the point, doll collecting is a subject of very intense interest,
and there are a number of organizations that service this interest. That is
where I would start. Even I, a middle-aged man with no special interest in
dolls, know about the Paderewski collection, so I am assuming many people
with that special interest will know far more. I would also contact the
cultural attache of the Polish embassy in D.C. and see if they can put you
in touch with a scholar in Poland who has this interest.

Finally, I would try the University of Michigan micho-fiche archive, and
query whether someone has written a thesis or dissertation on this.

Hope this helps.
