It's not too late to participate in the Library of Virginia's Unique Family Recipe Contest for Archives Month, "Homegrown: Celebrating Virginia's Cultural Heritage." Are the holidays not complete without mom's famous onion dip? Do you have a truly bizarre dish that no one eats but a family gathering isn't complete without it? Share your food and family stories to be featured on Out of the Box and to be eligible for a Virginia Shop prize pack. Send submissions to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.

Also, don't forget to mark your calendars for the LVA's 30 October event to finish off Archives Month's "Homegrown" theme. Chef Patrick Evans-Hylton will discuss his book, Dishing up Virginia, followed by a Virginia open house with food and beverage tastings, literature, and a chance to talk with specialists like Little House Green Grocery and to see a demonstration of historic food preparations from Gunston Hall. Virginia products and books will be for sale and related items from the Library of Virginia's collections will be on display. The event runs from 6-8:30, and there is limited free parking under the building.

For complete contest rules and event details, see the Archives Month website -- http://www.lva.virginia.gov/public/archivesmonth/2013/
