It is current Senator Robert Byrd of West Virginia, who is adopted, not the  
former Senator Harry F. Byrd Jr. of VIRGINIA. about whom I was  asking.  He 
descends from the Westover William Byrds, considered by  many Virginia's first 
family.   
 
Senator Robert Byrd of WEST VIRGINIA was adopted by his biological aunt and  
her husband Titius Dalton Byrd.
