I have some suggestions from a staffer with Louisiana reference
experience. Please contact me offline and I will forward her remarks.

Subject: Oscar James Dunn - 1st or 2nd Reg. New Orleans

I'm searching for primary and secondary sources which might highlight
the service careet of Oscar James Dunn. He states in several interviews
that is helps to muster the 1st or the 2nd Reg. of New Orleans, and
rises from the rank of private to captain before being mustered out by
Gen. Banks. I have been unsuccesful in recovering government documents
in regard to his military service and would appreciate any assistance
which could be rendered . Dunn would later become Louisiana's first
black Lt. Governor .
