Many thanks to all who shared their wisdom regarding "sucker hunting."
Apparently it was serious business for, in April 1755 one Darby Haney,
an overseer on the plantation of a Joseph Phillips, was arrested for
allowing suckers to grow and for "Tending of Seconds."  The charge was
later dismissed, but still . . .
